The Texas College Baseball Stock Up Stock Down report returns after another action-packed weekend across the state from March 13–15. With ranked matchups, offensive explosions, and several statement wins, teams across Texas continued to shape the early-season picture.
Each week, the Texas College Baseball Stock Up Stock Down report highlights programs trending upward after strong weekend performances and teams looking to regroup after a difficult series. From dominant wins by Texas and UTSA to explosive offensive performances by Dallas Baptist and Houston, this weekend delivered plenty of movement across the Texas college baseball landscape.
Stock Up
Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns bounced back in a big way this weekend after dropping a tough extra-inning game earlier in the series against Ole Miss. Texas responded with an 11–2 win on Friday and an 8–2 win on Saturday, showing why they remain one of the top teams in the country.
The pitching staff locked down the Rebels, and the offense provided plenty of support, giving Texas strong momentum heading into the next week of play.
UTSA Roadrunners
UTSA continued to prove they belong in the national conversation with a 15–8 win over UT Arlington on Saturday. The Roadrunners’ offense showed its depth once again, putting up runs in bunches and controlling the game late.
If UTSA continues to swing the bats like this, they will remain a dangerous team throughout the rest of the season.
Dallas Baptist Patriots
Dallas Baptist had one of the most explosive offensive performances of the weekend, defeating New Mexico State 20–2. The Patriots’ offense was relentless from start to finish and showed why DBU is consistently one of the most dangerous mid-major programs in the country.
When the Patriots are producing runs at this level, they are extremely difficult to beat.
Abilene Christian Wildcats
Abilene Christian delivered one of the biggest offensive outbursts of the weekend with a 22–11 win over Loyola Marymount. The Wildcats’ lineup stayed aggressive throughout the game and never allowed LMU to climb back into the contest.
If ACU can maintain that level of offensive production, they could become a tough matchup in conference play.
Houston Christian Huskies
Houston Christian picked up a solid road win with a 9–5 victory over Tarleton. The Huskies controlled the game with timely hitting and a steady pitching performance, giving them an important result in the weekend slate.
The win helps Houston Christian continue building momentum early in the season.
Stock Down
Baylor Bears
It was a difficult weekend for Baylor as the Bears were shut out 8–0 by West Virginia. The offense struggled to generate opportunities while the Mountaineers controlled the game from start to finish.
Baylor will need to find more consistency at the plate if it wants to remain competitive in upcoming matchups.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Texas Tech suffered one of the most surprising results of the weekend with an 18–7 loss to Kansas. The Red Raiders struggled to contain the Jayhawks’ offense, allowing Kansas to pull away late.
For a team with postseason aspirations, Texas Tech will need to regroup quickly after this setback.
Texas State Bobcats
Texas State ran into a tough matchup against UL Monroe and fell 16–5. The Bobcats struggled to slow the Warhawks’ offense, which kept adding runs throughout the game.
Texas State will look to bounce back as conference play continues.
Rice Owls
Rice came up short against Saint Mary’s 11–8, despite showing flashes offensively. The Owls were unable to keep pace late in the game as Saint Mary’s pulled away.
Rice has the talent to compete but will need more consistency to string together wins.
Texas Southern Tigers
Texas Southern dropped a high-scoring game to Jackson State, 17–12. While the Tigers managed to score runs, the pitching staff struggled to contain the opposing offense.
Texas Southern will look to tighten things up on the mound moving forward.
Final Thoughts
The weekend provided several strong performances from Texas programs, highlighted by dominant wins from Texas, UTSA, Dallas Baptist, and Abilene Christian. At the same time, a few programs will be looking to regroup after difficult outings.
With conference play heating up and several ranked teams in action, the next few weeks should bring even more movement in the Texas college baseball landscape.
