Every offseason brings plenty of drama, but the 2025-26 free agent class might be one of the biggest winter storylines baseball has seen in years. Multiple All-Stars, former MVP candidates, Cy Young contenders, and elite bullpen arms are set to hit the market. Some will stay put. Some will shock everyone. All will get paid.
So let’s have a little fun and predict where the most prominent names could land based on roster needs, payroll flexibility, and the overall direction of each franchise.
Top Free Agents & Our 2026 Landing Spot Predictions
Kyle Tucker — RF
Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers love left-handed power, and Tucker fits perfectly in their lineup construction. With Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman already locked in, adding another star run-producer makes too much sense for an already dominant offense.
Bo Bichette — SS
Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays (re-sign)
Toronto can’t afford to lose its franchise shortstop. The shortstop market is thin and Bichette is the face of the infield. Unless a massive surprise offer emerges, the most realistic outcome is a long-term extension.
Alex Bregman — 3B
Prediction: Boston Red Sox
Bregman upgrades Boston’s defense, brings playoff pedigree, and adds right-handed power to a lineup full of young talent. It’s a great baseball fit and a city that spends when the time is right.
Cody Bellinger — OF/1B
Prediction: New York Yankees (re-sign)
The short porch in right field continues to suit him, and his versatility gives the Yankees options at multiple positions. If he keeps producing in New York, he’ll stay in pinstripes.
Pete Alonso — 1B
Prediction: New York Mets (re-sign)
The Mets need their franchise slugger, and Alonso is too valuable to their brand and lineup to let walk. Expect a strong long-term deal to keep him in Queens.
Framber Valdez — LHP
Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays
Adding a frontline lefty would completely balance Toronto’s rotation. Ground balls, innings, postseason experience — it checks every box.
Dylan Cease — RHP
Prediction: New York Mets
High strikeouts, big-game capability, and a durable track record. The Mets need swing-and-miss pitching, and Cease immediately gives them a rotation anchor.
Kyle Schwarber — DH/LF
Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies (re-sign)
He’s a clubhouse favorite and one of the most impactful postseason bats in baseball. Philly will keep their big lefty in red.
Munetaka Murakami — 1B/3B (Japan)
Prediction: Seattle Mariners
Seattle needs real middle-of-the-order power, and Murakami brings exactly that. The Mariners love upside, and this would be one of the biggest signings in franchise history.
J.T. Realmuto — C
Prediction: Detroit Tigers
Detroit is on the rise, but they need veteran leadership behind the plate. Realmuto instantly upgrades the pitching development pipeline and brings proven power.
Josh Naylor — 1B
Prediction: San Francisco Giants
Supercompetitive bat, big-moment performer, and left-handed power that plays perfectly in Oracle Park. A great cultural and lineup fit.
Gleyber Torres — 2B
Prediction: Chicago Cubs
The Cubs need a reliable second baseman with pop. Torres gives them everyday production and postseason experience.
Luis Arraez — INF/DH
Prediction: Los Angeles Angels
The Angels desperately need on-base percentage and consistency near the top of the lineup. Arraez immediately fixes that.
Ranger Suárez — LHP
Prediction: St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals love pitchers who induce weak contact and throw strikes. Suárez feels like a classic St. Louis signing.
Chris Bassitt — RHP
Prediction: Baltimore Orioles
Baltimore needs innings-eaters to support its young rotation. Bassitt gives them postseason experience and durability without a massive contract.
Michael King — RHP
Prediction: San Francisco Giants
A savvy pitching development team, a pitcher with upside, and rotation depth needs — this is a match.
Robert Suárez — Closer
Prediction: Atlanta Braves
One of the most powerful late-inning arms in baseball. Atlanta loves bullpen depth and can win bidding wars for relief talent.
Edwin Díaz — Closer
Prediction: New York Mets (re-sign)
Electric stuff, fan-favorite status, and a market thin on elite closers. Hard to see him leaving.
Justin Verlander — RHP
Prediction: Houston Astros
If he continues playing, Houston remains the most natural landing spot. Veteran leadership, a comfortable environment, and short-term deals fit both sides.
Marcell Ozuna — DH
Prediction: Atlanta Braves (re-sign)
Still producing, and still fits perfectly in that lineup. No reason to change what works.
Final Thoughts
Some offseasons explode with surprises, but when big-market teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Phillies, Red Sox, and Mariners all have needs and spending power at the same time… things can get wild.
