The Texas Longhorns are gearing up for another exciting run in the NCAA Men’s Baseball Tournament, and this year, the road to Omaha starts right at home in Austin.
As the No. 2 overall seed, Texas is hosting the Austin Regional at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, with play beginning Friday, May 30. The Longhorns will face Houston Christian in their opening game, while UTSA and Kansas State round out the regional bracket.

A Season of Transition and Triumph
Under first-year head coach Jim Schlossnagle, the Longhorns have posted an impressive 42–12 overall record, including a 22–8 mark in their inaugural SEC season, which culminated in clinching the regular-season conference title. Schlossnagle, who previously led Texas A&M to the College World Series finals, has quickly made his mark in Austin, earning SEC Coach of the Year honors.
The team’s success is even more remarkable considering the significant roster turnover and injuries they’ve overcome. With 13 new transfers and a revamped pitching staff, the Longhorns have demonstrated resilience and depth throughout the season.
Key Players to Watch
Catcher Rylan Galvan has emerged as a standout performer, leading the team in five offensive categories, including a 1.063 OPS and 14 home runs—the most by a Texas catcher since 1992. His 32-game on-base streak earlier this season underscores his consistency at the plate.
Outfielder Max Belyeu and infielder Jalin Flores have also been instrumental in the team’s offensive firepower, both earning preseason All-American honors. On the mound, reliever Ruger Riojas has been a reliable arm out of the bullpen, providing stability in high-leverage situations.
Navigating the Austin Regional
Texas will open regional play against Houston Christian, a team making its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2015. While the Huskies posted a modest 32–23 record, the Longhorns are not taking any opponent lightly.
UTSA, with a 44–13 record, poses a significant challenge, having already defeated Texas in a 12-inning thriller earlier this season. Kansas State brings a power-heavy lineup capable of explosive offensive performances, adding another layer of competition to the regional. However, Texas’ depth and postseason experience give them a considerable advantage.
Looking Ahead
Should the Longhorns advance past the Austin Regional, they are slated to host the Super Regional against the winner of the Los Angeles Regional, which includes No. 15 seed UCLA. The Super Regionals are scheduled for June 6–9, with the College World Series set to begin on June 13 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Texas boasts a storied postseason history, with 64 NCAA tournament appearances and an all-time regional record of 155–59-1 (.723), including an 87–22 (.798) mark in Austin.
Final Thoughts
The Longhorns enter the 2025 NCAA Tournament with momentum, talent, and the advantage of playing at home. Under the guidance of Coach Schlossnagle, Texas aims to capitalize on their strong season and make a deep postseason run.
Fans can look forward to thrilling baseball as the team strives to return to the College World Series and compete for a national championship.
