Rangers Lock Up Corey Seager

The Texas Rangers continue to win this offseason as they have locked up veteran shortstop Corey Seager in a mega-deal that will pay Seager a $325 million guarantee over the next ten years.

The last 48-hours have been exciting for Rangers fans as the team was able to sign Marcus Semien, Kole Calhoun, and Jon Gray in a span of a few hours. Reports came out late Sunday evening that the Rangers may not be done as the team was looking into signing Seager. On Monday, those reports became a reality as the team was able to strike a deal that would bring Seager to Arlington.

Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first round in 2012, Seager has proven that he is one of the best shortstops in the league. Seager has shown what he can do at the plate; a two-time All-Star and Silver Slugger award winner, Seager had a slash line of .306/.394/.521/.915 in 409 plate appearances this season.

The Rangers are hoping that Seager will continue his success as he excelled at Globe Life Park during the 2020 Postseason, where he was able to win the NLCS MVP and World Series MVP in the same ballpark. A rare accomplishment for the young superstar.

With the addition of Seager, the Rangers will have to shuffle their infield around as Isiah Kiner-Falefa will more than likely have to make a move over to third base. How Kiner-Falefa does at third base will determine what the Rangers will do with top prospect Josh Jung. A third baseman as well, Jung is the number two prospect in the Rangers organization. Until Jung is ready, Kiner-Falefa fits in nicely at third base as he was a Gold Glove winner at the position in 2020.

The Rangers are making a statement this offseason as they continue to set the tone in the AL West. It would be hard to say that the Rangers are done making moves this offseason, but as we have seen so far, don’t count them out quite yet.
